‘Catch-it in the Catchment’

It’s an annual community clean-up initiative that helps protect the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary and its surrounding waterways. Volunteers work together to collect litter before it can enter rivers and the estuary, reducing the risk of harm to wildlife and improving the health of our aquatic environments. The event is a hands-on way for people to make a direct, visible difference to the places they love.

Catch-it in the Catchment 2023

In November 2023, Royal Park in Launceston was the focal point of a succesful community clean-up by the TEER Program, under the ‘Catch-it in the Catchment’ initiative, organised by the Tamar NRM. Volunteers gathered at the Royal Park boat ramp where bags and gloves were provided, making it easy for everyone to participate.

Thanks to the efforts of nine dedicated volunteers, eight bags of rubbish were collected, removing more than 350 items from the environment and preventing them from polluting the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary.

Each year, the ‘Catch-it in the Catchment’ initiative removes hundreds of kilos of rubbish from the environment before it has a chance to enter the waterways. Rubbish entering aquatic environments has severely negative impacts on species that can ingest or become entangled in rubbish.
