Blue-Green Algae (BGA) Status Updates
Classification of health risk is based on the National Health and Medical Research Council’s (NHMRC 2008) Guidelines for Managing Risks in Recreational Water.
Blue-green algae are sampled weekly at two locations on Lake Trevallyn.

The status shown above is based on blue-green algae monitoring undertaken by the TEER Program and does not provide an assessment of other recreational water quality risks, including faecal contamination indicated by bacteria such as E. coli or enterococci.

About the monitoring program
The TEER Program has monitored blue-green algae in Lake Trevallyn since 2008. Weekly monitoring during the summer and early autumn period is combined with real-time water-quality data from the Lake Trevallyn telemetry buoy to provide an early warning of conditions that may favour bloom development. Results are shared with relevant agencies to support coordinated management and public communication
