Events

A vital aspect of the Tamar Estuary and Esk Rivers (TEER) Program is to actively engage the community in events that will increase knowledge and understanding of the kanamaluka / Tamar estuary, the species that live here, impacts and pressures acting on our waterways, and the role we all play in protecting and enhancing local ecosystems.

Clean-up event - Wednesday 1 November

You're invited to join us at Royal Park in Launceston to help clean-up a popular recreation space and protect the kanamaluka / Tamar estuary from rubbish pollution.

The TEER team will be on-site between 3 pm and 5 pm, located at the Royal Park boat ramp with bags and gloves for you to use. Whether you can stop by for 10 minutes, half an hour, or the full two hours - every bit of litter picked up helps! Each year, the 'Catch-it in the Catchment' initiative removes hundreds of kg's of rubbish from the environment before it has a chance to enter the waterways. Rubbish entering aquatic environments has severely negative impacts on species that can ingest or become entangled in rubbish, which may also leach chemicals.

You can find, join, or even organise a local clean-up event by visiting the Clean-up Australia website www.cleanup.org.au

This clean-up event is part of the Catch-it in the Catchment initiative by Tamar NRM.

2023 kanamaluka / Tamar Forum

The 4th biennial kanamaluka / Tamar Forum brought together Industry leaders and environmental professionals on Wednesday the 25th of October, an event proudly sponsored by the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand.

This year, the forum provided a fantastic opportunity for attendees to hear about a variety of topics including cultural connections, current management, and future opportunities to enhance and protect the natural values of the kanamaluka / Tamar estuary.

The next kanamaluka / Tamar Forum will be held in 2026.

Tamar Discover Day 2022

The Tamar Discover Day is a free family event, which occurred on October 29 at the Seahorse World in Beauty Point. Community members were invited to join us and dive into the mysteries and wonder of the kanamaluka / Tamar estuary.

Celebrating the kanamaluka/ Tamar estuary and the wonderful diversity of flora and fauna that live there, the Tamar Discovery Day provides an opportunity to explore the incredible ecosystem, recreational opportunities, and heritage of our iconic estuary.

This year we were joined by the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service, FishCare, Plastic Free Launceston, Tamar NRM, Petuna Aquaculture and others who offered families a fun-filled day out with engaging displays and activities.

With in-water Autonomous Surface Vehicle demonstrations by AMC Search and discounted tours through the Seahorse World and Platypus House – there was something for everyone to enjoy and discover at this year’s Tamar Discovery Day.

This event was proudly sponsored by Bell Bay Aluminium and Petuna Aquaculture.
